Local Union News Update                                                             

Sisters and Brothers,

On Monday, April 28^th, stewards from OPEIU 39 & IBEW 2304 attended steward training.  The class was conducted by David Nack from the UW School for Workers.  The subjects covered included the roles of unions in society, grievance handling and FMLA with our Local’s attorney, Kurt Kobelt.   Preparations for upcoming contract negotiations were also covered.

OPEIU Local 39 will conduct additional training, open to all members.  The first session is scheduled for Tuesday, May 6^th from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at the Madison Labor Temple (1602 S Park Street, Madison.)  The agenda includes steward’s rights & protections, grievance procedure and investigation/interview meetings.  These sessions will provide you the opportunity to view how your Union works.  If you can attend, please RSVP by contacting any steward or the Union office at 257-4734. 

We will be asking for volunteers for a Solidarity Committee.  Committee members will help in surveying members, distributing updates and assisting the negotiating committee as needed.  On the reverse side is a list of members/areas assigned to stewards. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact any steward.
